Minamino loaned out
Takumi Minamino would join Liverpool in January of 2020 from RB Salzburg.
The Japan international would feature 10 times in the Premier League during the second half of 2019/20 as Liverpool secured their first league title in 30 years.
The first half of 2020/21 then saw Minamino struggling for any sort of regular first-team action.
He featured nine times for the Reds, but five of those outings saw him on the pitch for less than 10 minutes.
As a result, the 26-year-old would be loaned out to Southampton during the winter window, where he went on to feature 10 times and score two goals.
Southampton speak to Liverpool about Minamino
Minamino has, of course, since returned to Liverpool with his future somewhat unknown.
Now though, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has provided some insight into the future of the former Salzburg man.
Speaking recently, Hasenhuttl confirmed Southampton have had talks with Liverpool over Minamino, with the Reds said to be currently undecided on what will happen with him:
“Players like to join big clubs because they get a lot of money there and they get a lot of praise for being a part of the top six, if you will.
“But it is only for a short moment that you are happy about it because when you are not playing enough times and you are not important for the club, then it feels very awful, very quickly.
“The most important thing for him is that he gets a chance to play. We had so much rotation with injuries and everything that it was clear he would get a lot of game time with us.
“We have had talks with them and they are not so sure what will happen with him because Liverpool may make some things happen in the transfer market.
“For him, it was important to play here. We gave him that chance to play and we have enjoyed having him here.”

Minamino impressing with Japan
Whilst Minamino’s club future remains up in the air, he has been in fine form for Japan recently.
The Japan international has scored three and assisted three in his two outings over the last few weeks, including the below strike vs Tajikistan:
